SUMMARY:FIWARE eGov DAY: From eGovernment to eGovernance: Open Platforms for Public Value Creation
DESCRIPTION:More and more\, eGovernance applications are becoming part of citizens’ lives as they save costs and citizens’ time. The major elements are connectivity\, information\, skill set\, budget. Given how tight public budgets often are\, the return on investment is the major focus for governments when looking into digitizing their services. How can they go about that with costly software? The use of free and Open Source software could be the answer as it provides cost savings\, security\, scalability\, reliability\, interoperability\, and globalization. \nTo showcase the ways in which the FIWARE Community members are working to foster this economic model\, whilst also reducing the financial burden of public administrations and increasing citizens’ engagement within the process\, this free virtual experience brings together private and public businesses\, and developers operating at different fields to discuss how Open Source technology can make a difference. \nThe FIWARE eGovernment DAY will feature outstanding keynote and specialist speeches from experts in the field\, as well as real-life use cases coming from across the world highlighting how nations are attempting to innovate their infrastructure – even though they may be at different stages in their journey of digital transformation – not least in respect to the use of Open Source approaches and Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) such as Blockchain\, for example.

SUMMARY:TOKEN Policy Observatory at Untitled Festival
DESCRIPTION:On 17th-18th September\, the first TOKEN Policy Observatory at Untitled festival. All the TOKEN sessions will be organized during this festival time. The sessions are: \nA get-together for TOKEN consortium partners at the beginning of the festival. Three conversations on Token vision. Initial topics: \n1) Radical transparency will be the future of public administration and will be the main cause of why some governments fail and some excel. \n2) Blockchain – the problem or solution to 21st-century governments? \n3) Data will save the world. \nFour experimentation workshops The TOKEN sessions (except a consortium exclusive short get-together) are open to all attendees.

SUMMARY:Unblock the City
DESCRIPTION:In this webinar\, you will learn how public authorities\, and specifically cities & municipalities\, can use DLTs to improve their processes and solve issues related to trust\, transparency and privacy. The webinar takes you at cruising speed around the progress made\, ambitions of the project and introduces you to the four applications. \n– Learn about which applications are being developed within the Token project: \n\nManagement of public funding (tendering)\nTransparent management of public accounts\nDynamic access to the city & city logistics\nIncreased trust within an (urban) data marketplace\n\n– Learn how the city of Leuven looks at (last mile) urban logistics and how they plan to promote local trade and sustainable modes of transport. \n– Learn about the City of Things program\, imec is researching to see how technology can be used to make our cities more livable. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:National event: Impacto de Blockchain en los Servicios Públicos
DESCRIPTION:Santander Municipality\, together with the University of Cantabria\, organised an event for TOKEN in Spain. The event took place online\, due to COVID-19 restrictions\, and in Spanish. \nIn this webinar\, different entities and public administrations showed how the application of DLT allows public services to improve efficiency\, boost public participation\, increase transparency and promote automation through intelligent contracts. \nIn addition to TOKEN presentation\, the following keynotes took place (in Spanish): \n\nEuropean Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI): The European Union governments’ blockchain network for the public administration’s transformation. Jesús Ruiz\, Alastria.\nThe citizens as sovereigns of their identity. Iván Gutierrez Agüero\, Tecnalia.\nBlockchain communities in Spain: a decentralised organization. Daniel Labeaga\, Blockchain Aragón\nBlockchain implication in public services. Diego Cagigas Castro and Daniel Díaz-Fuentes\, University of Cantabria.

SUMMARY:Integrating Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies in Smart Cities
DESCRIPTION:During the session\, the potential derived from the use of blockchain and DLT technologies within the framework of Smart Cities will be analyzed\, supporting the objectives of transparency and traceability of Smart Cities processes\, as well as offering guarantees and confidence in transactions linked to the sharing and trading of public and private data (Data Sharing and Trading/Marketplace). We will explain how it is possible to integrate blockchain and DLT technology within FIWARE-based Smart Cities platforms. Likewise\, the collaboration plans underway between FIWARE and blockchain/DLT initiatives at Spanish (Alastria) and European (EBSI – European BlockChain Service Infrastructure) level will be analyzed. \nFeatured Speakers:  \nJuanjo Hierro (CTO\, FIWARE Foundation)\nJesus Ruiz (Member of the Board and CTO\, Alastria Blockchain Ecosystem)\nJosé Manuel Avelino (Founder & CEO en Vestigia Blockchain Solutions)\nAntonio Jara (CEO\, HOPU)
