SUMMARY:Public Services and Blockchain: why\, why not\, what and how?
DESCRIPTION:What do distributed ledger technologies like blockchain mean for public services? Do they in reality fulfil the promises of transparency\, efficiency and increased trust? What do you need to take into account in distributed ledger technology projects in public services? \nFor the past three years\, the TOKEN project has worked with four real life use cases in smart cities to build\, test\, and pilot how distributed ledger technologies can be used in various public services. Join us and city officials\, smart city service developers and public servants to learn more about what these actual projects and research into their implementation has to say about the benefits\, the question marks and the concrete how to’s and lessons learned of DLT in the public sector. During the event\, you will hear from concrete use cases what benefits they have seen and what challenges they have faced as well as gain insight into the evolving policy landscape around DLT and what tools policymakers on the city level can use to assess the possible uses and grasp onto the possibilities of distributed ledger technology in the public sector. \n  \n\nRead detailed agenda and register here

SUMMARY:Making Blockchain Happen in the Public Sector
DESCRIPTION:Though decentralised by nature\, blockchain is increasingly implemented in the centralised environment of the public sector. While blockchain is a salient topic on the overall technology agenda\, its operational use cases in public services are only emerging – as is the political regulatory framework. \nTwo European projects working with blockchain in the public services\, TOKEN and BLING\, have joined forces to organise this conference\, where you will learn: \n\nHow blockchain can improve public services\nHow to tackle technological challenges in public sector blockchain\nHow do policies and regulations affect practical applications\n\nThis conference includes a keynote and two parallel tracks followed by a plenary session on policy. The operational track\, ‘The Real World of Blockchain Implementations’\, will focus on public sector use cases implemented in the Netherlands\, Spain and Greece. The technology track titled ‘Tackle the Tech in Blockchain’ offers an opportunity to learn about the technological background of pilot projects as well as about Blockchain Platform-as-a-Service. The plenary session on the policy will cover EU and national level blockchain policies and strategies. In the plenary\, we’ll hear expert presentations about the interplay of emerging technologies and emerging regulation. Please find the program in more detail below. \nCheck the full agenda here and don’t forget to secure your spot right away by registering here!

SUMMARY:Webinar Unblock the City - the second
DESCRIPTION:The Token project\, with a focus on city logistics\, is in its second year of life\, so we provide a status update. We organise the online webinar ‘Unblock the city – the second’ on Tuesday\, 23 November\, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. \nDuring the webinar we will elaborate on the concept of ‘Dynamic access control’ (DAC). What if you\, as a transporter\, are given extra access to a low-traffic area to make deliveries? Outside the loading and unloading windows? What conditions would you have to meet? And how can this be regulated and controlled? With Dynamic Access Control\, a city can impose rules for extra access in a dynamic and controllable way\, encouraging transport companies to green their fleet or deliver to customers in a consolidated way. This system is linked to the planning systems at the transport companies and uses blockchain technology for increased security and trust. \nWhat is on the program? \n1.- General introduction of the Token project by imec and VIL:– The problem definition and how DAC can provide solutions.– The technical way of working of DAC– Token: project progress in 2021 \n2.- The advantages of DAC– For cities: how does a DAC increase the livability of your city? Information and explanation by the city of Leuven.– For local economy: how does a DAC boost the local economy? Information and explanation by Linked Farm.– For logistic players: what are the advantages and implications of a DAC? Information and explanation by City Depot. \n3.- Outro: conclusion and closing words by imec and VIL. \nAre you interested in attending this session? Please register using this form.

SUMMARY:National Event: Connecting Europe through blockchain and self sovereign identity
DESCRIPTION:Connecting Europe through blockchain and self-sovereign identity: A discussion on its benefit for public services \nBlockchain technology has enormous potential to enhance the way that citizens\, governments and businesses interact\, by enhancing trust between entities and improving the efficiency of operations. This\, coupled with the developments in Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) in the world of digital identity\, creates the potential for a more trustworthy\, secure and fair digital identity future for Europe. \nThe Internet has been described as “the decisive technology of the information age”\, and blockchain is now reinventing it. The domain of blockchain applications seems to be limitless\, from payments to safe data sharing of Internet of Things\, or healthcare data. An identity management model powered by blockchain could pioneer this change. This new model would reimagine the relationship between state and individual\, as the government would become the verifier\, rather than the controller of people’s public service identity. \nOn 26 th of November\, an event “Connecting Europe through blockchain and self-sovereign identity: A discussion on its benefit for public services” will be organised and held on behalf of the TOKEN project\, accompanied by a rock-solid panel of highly specialized experts with demonstrable professional experience in the fields of blockchain and digital identity. \nAbout the speakers: \n\nRieks Joosten – Senior Scientist at TNO (business information processes and information security).\nKai Wagner – Member of the Board of Directors at International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications; Partnership Development at Jolocom\nCarlos Pastor Matut – Digital Identity Leader at Alastria\, Convenor ESSIF at European Blockchain Partnership\nAndrés Sánchez– Programme and project manager at TOKEN project\, Director of FundingBox Communities\nJorge Fernandez – CTO at FundingBox\, Co-founder of BotCar (Internet of Things Platform for smarter driving)\nDaniel Du Seuil – convenor of the European Self Sovereign Identity Framework within the European Blockchain Partnership\n\nEvent agenda: \n\nWelcome note by Andrés Sánchez\nTOKEN Project and its technology by Jorge Fernandez\nKeynote speech: “ESSIF and Self sovereign identity in Europe” by Daniel Du Seuil\nRound table: How Self sovereign Identity will change society\n\nThe round table will be chaired by the following experts: \n\nRieks Joosten\nKai Wagner\nCarlos Pastor Matut\nAndrés Sánchez\nJorge Fernandez\nDaniel Du Seuil\n\n5. SUMMARY:FIWARE eGov DAY: From eGovernment to eGovernance: Open Platforms for Public Value Creation
DESCRIPTION:More and more\, eGovernance applications are becoming part of citizens’ lives as they save costs and citizens’ time. The major elements are connectivity\, information\, skill set\, budget. Given how tight public budgets often are\, the return on investment is the major focus for governments when looking into digitizing their services. How can they go about that with costly software? The use of free and Open Source software could be the answer as it provides cost savings\, security\, scalability\, reliability\, interoperability\, and globalization. \nTo showcase the ways in which the FIWARE Community members are working to foster this economic model\, whilst also reducing the financial burden of public administrations and increasing citizens’ engagement within the process\, this free virtual experience brings together private and public businesses\, and developers operating at different fields to discuss how Open Source technology can make a difference. \nThe FIWARE eGovernment DAY will feature outstanding keynote and specialist speeches from experts in the field\, as well as real-life use cases coming from across the world highlighting how nations are attempting to innovate their infrastructure – even though they may be at different stages in their journey of digital transformation – not least in respect to the use of Open Source approaches and Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) such as Blockchain\, for example.
